Training and project based learning
Developmental Services specialises in the design and facilitation of training courses and project based learning in the field.
Training courses
We design training and develop materials to meet your needs:
Short courses ranging from one to five days |
Comprehensive training programmes that roll out linked courses over a period of eighteen months. |
Innovative training design integrates scenarios and case studies, animated presentations and a wide range of participatory learning activities. Longer training courses contain fieldwork blocks and syndicate assignments.
All course participants receive a professionally designed course guide that compiles all the course materials.
Participants on certain courses also receive a course reader and bibliographies containing text and internet references.
Project based learning
Project based learning (PBL) involves bringing project participants and key stakeholders together in a guided learning programme at a project site. We have used this approach extensively in the DLA/DANCED training programme for integrating environmental planning into land reform.
Commonage users in Clarens meet with Local Government, Department of Agriculture and Land Affairs officials for a three day project based learning session to develop a joint strategy for sustainable commonage management. |
PBL approaches have many advantages:
They build relationships between project participants, fieldworkers and officials |
They recognise and validate different types of knowledge and expertise - local knowledge, expert knowledge, so called soft and hard skills and enable interaction between them |
They contribute to clarifying and strengthening institutional arrangements for development |
Learning leads directly to action. |
